The Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom (FNF) is an independent, non-profit, and non-governmental organisation from Germany working for adult civic education on an international scale. According to our mission, we are committed to promoting the values of Liberalism: Individual freedom, democracy, pluralism, the rule of law, and market economy. Tolerance, human rights, and a secular state, which respects the religious beliefs of every citizen, are crucial for our understanding of Liberalism.
FNF was founded in 1958 under the aegis of Theodor Heuss, the first Federal President of the Federal Republic of Germany. Heuss and his liberal co-founders chose Friedrich Naumann (1860-1919), the outstanding liberal publicist and politician, as the patron of the foundation. Thus, they paid tribute to one of the seminal personalities of civic education for active citizens, in Germany and in Europe.
